Some cities in China have begun using a new technology for their theater going experience. They will now be using "bullet screens", which will allow people to send text messages that will appear on the screen while watching the film.
While most people would probably find it annoying to keep seeing people use their phones and projecting texts on the screen, some will, no doubt, find it to be fun. One the theater owner in Shandong province said, "People like it right now, as it's a new thing. In the long term, it might affect people's concentration. We are trying to continue with some bullet screen activities and play some films that young people like. Time will tell."
Reviews are mixed on the experience. One person said, "When the audience complains during the screening, it interrupts our independent thinking and affects our concentration on the film. I don't like it." Another person stated that it "is a real way of watching a film. For us, it is exciting and fun. It is a reform in terms of the commercial model. It is just like when popcorn got into cinema for the first time, a lot of people protested that it would affect the film viewing experience."
