The Current Doctor Who Team Takes The Stage At Comic Con For One Final Time
In their final San Diego Comic Con panel the current BBC America Doctor Who team and the entirety of Hall H paid loving tribute to Peter Capaldi. They also debuted a new trailer for the Christmas special where Capaldi's Doctor will regenerate.

A wonderfully put together reel showed highlights from Capaldi's run as the Doctor and it made more than one fan emotional. When it finished, the crowd clapped loudly and shouted their praise to Capaldi. Then, urged on by Michelle Gomez, they gave Capaldi a standing ovation and the actor got a little teary.

He ended up giving an unplanned speech lauding each of the other panelists. He gave credit where it's due to Steven Moffat for laying the groundwork for a female Doctor, referring to the upcoming Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker.

During the Q&A portion, the panel sidestepped several fan questions in that charming British way. When asked about their favorite Doctor and companion duo, Moffat said every Doctor is his favorite because they're all one character in the end. "My favorite Doctor is Doctor Who!"

Footage from the upcoming Christmas Special was a fantastic surprise for the crowd. The episode only just finished filming and director Rachel Talalay couldn't even attend Comic Con because she was working on post production. And yet the team came through with a short trailer showing the Twelfth Doctor paired up with the First Doctor, as portrayed by David Bradley. They're stuck in a single moment in time, where they encounter Mark Gatiss playing a Hitler-esque German soldier.

Pearl Mackie is also confirmed to return for the special, though that will be the end of her run as Bill. She will not appear alongside Whittaker in series 11.

BBC America's Doctor Who "Twice Upon a Time" airs on December 25, 2017.
