The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that they will be expelling Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership. The announcement was made today after a vote was taken Tuesday night.

In the statement, it said that "The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy's values of respect for human dignity".

This isn't something new; the board also expelled Harvey Weinstein after numerous reports of him sexually assaulting various women over the years. 

Bill Cosby has been accused by dozens of women of sexual assault and was convicted on April 26 in Pennsylvania on three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Polanski pleaded guilty in the 1970s to five charges stemming from having sex with then-minor Samantha Gailey. He was convicted but spent only 6 weeks in prison but has lived in exile in France ever since.

Both men are allowed to try to appeal the decision but there's no word yet on whether or not that will take place.
