Comedy legend Carl Reiner died last night at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 98 years old.
Reiner was not only a stand-up comedian, but a writer, actor, director, producer, and singer. He broke into the showbiz world in 1950, appearing on "Your Show of Shows". In 1961, Reiner began his best-known role as Alan Brady on "The Dick Van Dyke Show", which lasted for five seasons. He was a much sought after actor and comedic writer, collaborating for many years with Mel Brooks. He co-wrote several films including Steve Martin led titles "The Jerk", "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", "The Man With Two Brains" and "All of Me".
He was also an author and wrote a memoir (and several other books) in 2004 titled "My Anecdotal Life: A Memoir", and was still acting until fairly recently and kept a strong presence on social media.
His wife of 64 years, Estelle Lebost, died in 2008. He is survived by their three children Lucas, Annie, and director Rob.
Rob tweeted this morning about his father's passing saying, "Last night my dad passed away. As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light."
