Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead" is inching its way to becoming one of Netflix's top 10 most-watched films. The film premiered on the streamer on May 21 and has already been viewed in almost 72 million households.
The film takes place after a massive zombie outbreak in Las Vegas and follows a group of mercenaries who goes into the quarantine zone to perform a heist. It stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win.
Netflix has also already greenlit a prequel film, which will star and be directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, who played Ludwig Dieter. The film will be produced by Deborah Snyder, Snyder and Wesley Coller of The Stone Quarry and Schweighöfer, and Dan Maag of Pantaleon Films. It's slated for release later this year.
An "Army of the Dead" mobile VR experience titled "Viva Las Vengeance" will be available this summer. The experience will allow users to virtually battle zombie hordes throughout the city.
The film was also released in theaters on May 14, and earned over $800 thousand opening weekend.
