Ridley Scott will be bringing a "Gladiator" sequel to the masses, Paramount Pictures announced.
The original, released in 2000, starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman soldier who is forced into slavery as a gladiator under Emperor Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. In the sequel, Paul Mescal ("Aftersun"), is set to play the lead as Lucius, the son of Lucilla, who was played by Connie Nielsen in the original.
The film will be produced by Scott, as well as Scott Free Productions president Michael Pruss, and Red Wagon Entertainment's Doug Wick.
The yet-untitled sequel will be released on Nov. 22, 2024.
