Miramax has acquired the TV rights to the immensely popular "Halloween" franchise from Trancas International Films.

"We couldn't be more excited to bring Halloween to television. We are thrilled to expand our long and successful partnership with Trancas and the brilliant Malek Akkad in introducing this iconic franchise to a new form of storytelling and a new generation of fans," said Miramax's Head of Global TV Marc Helwig.

Trancas International Films' head Malek Akkad, added, "Trancas International Films is extremely enthused to be expanding our long-standing relationship with Miramax, and we look forward to working with Marc Helwig and the entire team in creating this new chapter."

There were reports about a heated bidding war for the rights, claiming that A24 and Blumhouse were involved alongside Miramax. There's no confirmation of that, however.

The Halloween film franchise spans 13 titles, with its inception dating back to the 1978 original, co-authored and directed by John Carpenter. The films revolve around the malevolent figure of Michael Myers, who was institutionalized as a child following the murder of his sister. Fifteen years later, he escapes, embarking on a gruesome mission to terrorize the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois, exclusively on Halloween night. Throughout this chilling saga, the central figures attempting to thwart his bloodlust are babysitter Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) and Dr. Samuel Lewis (portrayed by Donald Pleasance).

After a nine-year hiatus, the franchise witnessed a revival in 2018 with a direct sequel to the original film. This marked the commencement of the Halloween trilogy, placing the resilient Laurie Strode, portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis, at the forefront, as she awaited Michael Myers' relentless pursuit. The sequel, Halloween Kills, hit the screens in 2021, and the trilogy concluded with the release of Halloween Ends in October 2022. These films brought closure to the primary narrative of the series, culminating in a final confrontation between Strode and Myers. Following a 44-year-long journey, Jamie Lee Curtis gracefully exited the franchise.
