It's been reported that the development of a RoboCop series is moving forward at Amazon MGM Studios. The series is based on the iconic MGM franchise, with renowned horror filmmaker James Wan serving as an executive producer through his production company, Atomic Monster. Peter Ocko will be taking on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Staying true to the film's storyline, the film will focus on a massive tech corporation that partners with the local police force to deploy a cutting-edge enforcer to tackle the surge in crime. This enforcer is a hybrid-part human, part machine-crafted from the remains of a fallen officer.

After Amazon acquired MGM, RoboCop was high on the list of properties to be considered for series adaptation. There is also a Legally Blonde prequel series and the potential for series like Poltergeist and Barbershop.

Ocko will co-executive produce the project alongside Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett, all from Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing the project for the production company.

The RoboCop franchise began in 1987 and centered around Alex Murphy, a Detroit police officer fatally injured in the line of duty who is transformed into a powerful cyborg known as RoboCop. The original film, starring Peter Weller, was then followed by sequels in 1990 and 1993, and a reboot in 2014.
