Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald, known for her Emmy-nominated role in Boardwalk Empire, is set to return to HBO as a regular in a new series. She will star in "Lanterns" alongside Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. The series is a drama inspired by the Green Lantern DC comic.
"Lanterns", created by Ozark's Chris Mundy and Watchmen's Damon Lindelof, follows two members of the Green Lantern Corps-John Stewart (played by Pierre) and Hal Jordan (played by Chandler)-as they investigate a murder in a rural American town. The show explores a blend of intergalactic action and Earth-bound intrigue, merging superhero lore with crime drama elements.
In the series, Macdonald takes on the role of Sheriff Kerry, a tough, no-nonsense officer who is dedicated to protecting her family and her small-town community. Kerry's unbreakable spirit, shaped by a complex past, gives her a grounded and resilient presence as she navigates the rising tension surrounding the murder investigation. Her character adds an additional layer of mystery and potential romance to the storyline, as rumors suggest a possible connection between her and Hal Jordan.
Chris Mundy serves as the showrunner for the eight-episode series, which is produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The project also includes directing and executive production by James Hawes.
