It has been confirmed that a new movie extending the "Game of Thrones" franchise is in very early development at Warner Bros. While the studio has chosen not to comment on the project, initial discussions suggest that the film is still in its nascent stages, with no creative team currently attached.

The potential film comes five years after the conclusion of the original HBO "Game of Thrones" series, which aired from 2011 to 2019 and was created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The series became a cultural phenomenon, known for its intricate storytelling, political intrigue, and epic battles. During its eight-season run, it garnered significant acclaim, winning a total of 59 Emmy Awards. The series was adapted from George R.R. Martin's beloved "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels.

Following the original series, HBO/Max has introduced several spin-offs, including the prequel "House of the Dragon", which recently concluded its second season and has been renewed for a third. Additionally, another upcoming prequel titled "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", based on Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" novellas, is set to premiere sometime next year.
