Chris Evans, aka Steve Rogers/Captain America, is rumored to be making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2026 release, "Avengers: Doomsday", though details about his role remain a mystery. Evans' Captain America was last seen as an elderly man in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame", having passed his iconic shield to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. Evans also made a surprise cameo in the blockbuster hit "Deadpool & Wolverine" as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, a reprisal of his character from Fox's earlier "Fantastic Four" films.

The secrecy surrounding "Avengers: Doomsday" hasn't dulled fan excitement, especially with the confirmation that Robert Downey Jr. will also return - not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Victor von Doom, the central villain for the "Fantastic Four". Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film is part of an epic two-movie arc, culminating in "Avengers: Secret Wars" in 2027. The Russo brothers have hinted at the interconnected nature of these films, likening them to the two-part saga of "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame". With a multiverse narrative at play, the potential for alternate versions of beloved heroes or entirely new takes on iconic characters opens a world of possibilities for Evans, Downey, and their fellow A-listers.

"Avengers: Doomsday" is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by "Secret Wars" on May 7, 2027.
