For quite some time now, Hollywood has decided that the safe thing to do is remake a classic movie rather than try to come up with a new story.  This movie is exactly that - an almost exact remake (not shot by shot mind you like Psycho) of the classic Arthur starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli.
 
With one big exception.  Arthur's love interest in the original was played by Liza Minelli, who was primary billed on the one-sheet.  In this version, Arthur's love interest is played by the up and coming actress Greta Gerwig, not Jennifer Garner.  Jennifer Garner plays Susan, the woman Arthur's mother wants him to marry in order to receive the family fortune.  Normally I do not like an almost exact remakes of movies - there must be a good reason to remake them, such as improvements in technology that allow for the story to be improved or new outlooks on the story.  And the latter is how this movie approached the same exact plot.  In our modern reality TV age of celebrity stars getting in publicity for the wrong reasons, what would happen to Arthur?  This refreshed look shows us bits and pieces, from wardrobe malfunctions exiting a limousine, to having the police chase him down Wall Street in the Batmobile from Batman and Robin.
 
The transfer was extraordinarily good, with a crisp sharp picture, and the sound was also very good - what you have come to expect from Blu-ray.  The combo pack is also a very good value with the Blu-ray, and a digital copy/DVD disc for you to use when traveling.
 
If you've seen the original, and you're not a Russell Brand fan, then this movie really isn't for you.  Because like I mentioned before, the plot is exactly the same, only the details are different and refreshed for an audience thirty years later.  In actuality however, this is Russell Brand's movie.  A good portion of the movie was scripted, but in many circumstances the final cut is composed of Russell Brand's improv, some of which you can see when you watch the special features (the special features consist of deleted scenes, a very short gag reel, and a featurette that shows Russell Brand as Arthur Unscripted - the latter being a must see).  He nails the role of Arthur splendidly, even more than Dudley Moore did - a trust fund son that has never had to fend for himself ever before, and at the same time continue to be funny, even when unscripted.  So if have even a slight inkling of the humor that is Russell Brand, give this movie a shot.  You won't be disappointed.
