Some things in show business never fail to raise eyebrows. Scandals, deaths, etc.  And some things in film seem so unrealistic and fantastic, but that is what makes them entertainment, no? Well, not according to the US Defense Department.

Wired.com has reported that the Pentagon felt that "The Avengers" was too unrealistic of a film for them to cooperate with. the U.S. Defense Department's Hollywood liaison, Phil Strub, said, "We couldn't reconcile the unreality of this international organization and our place in it. To whom did S.H.I.E.L.D. answer? Did we work for S.H.I.E.L.D.? We hit that roadblock and decided we couldn't do anything… It just got to the point where it didn't make any sense."

The film was allowed to use some Humvees for the final scenes, but that was the extent of any military involvement in the film.
