CW Renews Stargirl for Second Season

The CW has renewed "Stargirl" for a second season.

The series is based on the DC Universe character of the same name who discovers the cosmic staff of Starman. She also finds out that her stepfather was his sidekick and decides to take up the reigns and inspire friends in her new school to join her. The character was created as a tribute to the writer's (Geoff Johns) sister.

Brec Bassinger stars as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl) alongside Luke Wilson who plays her stepfather Pat Dugan. The series also stars Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker, and Hunter Sansone.

Premiering on May 19 on The CW, the series has performed well. It has averaged over 1 million viewers per episode and a 0.2 rating in adults 18-49. It also premiered on the DCU streamer on May 18 but no viewership data has been released for that.

Geoff Johns is the series' co-showrunner and executive producer along with Melissa Carter, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter.
