Tom Hanks in Pinocchio? Say It's Not A lie!

Disney is once again looking to take one of their animated classics and make a live-action movie and it may include Tom Hanks.  After reading the script for Pinocchio, Hanks reportedly reached out to Director Robert Zemeckis conveying his interest in the project.  While still in early negotiations, Hanks may sign on to play the role of Geppetto, the woodcarver who makes a puppet that comes to life with the help of some fairy dust.

Zemeckis, who plans to direct the remake penned the script with Chris Weitz.  Weitz is also producing the film with his Depth of Field partner, Andrew Miano.

Hanks was in talks to portray Geppetto years ago when Paul King was planning to direct and Disney has wanted him for this particular role since then.  Nothing was formally signed back then but it seems likely that Hanks will sign on with Zemeckis at the helm, given their past.

Pinocchio would be the fourth time Hanks and Zemeckis would work together having previously made Cast Away, Polar Express, and Forrest Gump.  The latter film winning Academy Awards for both men.

Hanks can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ World War II Drama, Greyhound and plans to resume work on the Elvis Presley biopic this fall in Australia.
