It's being reported that the current writer's strike could go on for much longer than originally thought. A source close to the situation has said, "I think we're in for a long strike, and they're going to let it bleed out."
Writers have been on strike since May 2, and it's still not known whether or not SAG-AFTRA will join in. However, it's said that no deals will be made until at least late October.
"The studios and the AMPTP believe that by October most writers will be running out of money after five months on the picket lines and no work. The studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal," according to a Deadline report.
If SAG-AFTRA joins the strike, it will be the first time in 63 years that there would be a dual strike.
SAG-AFTRA, which stands for Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, is a labor union representing professionals in the entertainment industry. It was formed in 2012 through the merger of two long-standing unions, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
