DNEG has announced that it will be making dozens of layoffs in London HQ, where the company has about 900 UK staff. Layoffs will take place in multiple departments including lighting, tech, and rigging.
This round of layoffs is said to be due to the economic slumps, as opposed to the current Hollywood strikes.
DNEG excels in diverse aspects of visual effects, encompassing computer-generated imagery (CGI), compositing, 3D modeling, animation, and simulation. Collaborating closely with film studios and production houses, they breathe life into intricate and breathtaking sequences, elevating the storytelling and cinematic immersion for audiences. Its film credits include "Dune: Part Two", "Oppenheimer", "The Last of Us", "Inception" and "Tenet". Aside from London, the company has locations in London, LA, Vancouver, Mumbai, Chennai, Montreal, Bangalore, Toronto, and Sydney.
Philippa Childs, who runs UK broadcasting union Bectu, commented about the news, saying that the company is "doing everything we can to support our members who are affected by redundancies or loss of work, and will continue to monitor developments closely." She added that the current situation is a "challenging and uncertain time for many film and TV workers, both at home in the UK and globally."
