Prime Video Ad Expansion: Amazon's Strategy and Impact on Subscribers

Amazon has announced that Prime Video, the renowned streaming platform by Amazon, is gearing up to introduce advertisements within its entertainment content in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada, followed by a rollout in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia in 2024.

There's no word yet on how many ads this will include, but the streaming giant is saying that they will be "limited" and that its goal is "to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers."

Currently, Prime members are able to watch films and series ad-free with their $14.99 a month membership. Now, in order to continue with that, customers will have to pay an additional fee of $2.99 per month in the U.S. If you choose not to pay the additional fee, you will continue paying the membership price and watch ads.

The reason for the change, says Amazon, is to help with investing in their content, which includes "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "The Boys", "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan", "Citadel", "The Wheel of Time", "Reacher", and "The Summer I Turned Pretty", "Air", "Creed III", "Dungeons & Dragons", and the upcoming "Candy Cane Lane", starring Eddie Murphy.

Amazon earned over $38 billion in ad revenue last year.
