A follow-up to the action-packed hit "Road House" is officially in development, with Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role as the iconic Dalton. While Amazon has remained tight-lipped about specific details regarding the sequel, the announcement of this highly-anticipated project was given prominence during Amazon MGM Studios chief Jennifer Salke's address at the company's inaugural upfront presentation to advertisers on Tuesday.

During the event held at New York City's Pier 36 venue, Salke highlighted the immense global popularity of the original "Road House" film, saying, "As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called 'Road House'. Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched ‘Road House.' We like to watch this these results like a baby."

The screenplay for "Road House" was penned by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, with Joel Silver serving as the film's producer. Alongside Gyllenhaal, the star-studded cast includes Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Conor McGregor, and Lukas Gage, among others.

According to Amazon MGM Studios, the initial installment of "Road House" has garnered nearly 80 million viewers worldwide to date, making it a standout success. Premiering on Prime Video on March 21, the film achieved a groundbreaking milestone by attracting over 50 million viewers globally within its first two weekends, establishing it as Amazon MGM Studios' most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide scale. However, it's essential to note that while these streaming viewership figures are impressive, they come with certain caveats. Amazon has yet to disclose specific criteria for what constitutes a "view," and the reported figures encompass a broader timeframe than the traditional opening-weekend metric used in the film industry.
