Amazon Prime Video Expands Creative Hub with Acquisition of Bray Film Studios

Amazon Prime Video has announced its acquisition of Bray Film Studios, a historic landmark located in Water Oakley, Berkshire, just 26 miles from central London. This acquisition marks a significant investment in expanding Amazon's production capabilities for both television series and feature films in the UK.

Bray Film Studios boasts impressive facilities, including 53,600 square feet of sound stage space across five stages, 77,400 square feet of workshops, 39,400 square feet of office space, a sprawling backlot spanning 182,900 square feet, and ample parking covering 156,000 square feet. These facilities have previously supported Amazon MGM Studios productions, notably becoming the production home for the highly acclaimed second season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."

Mike Hopkins, Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed enthusiasm about Bray Studios becoming Amazon's creative hub in the UK. He emphasized Amazon's commitment to nurturing relationships within the UK's vibrant creative community, which is renowned for its world-class storytellers and talent.

Frank Burke, Chairman of Bray Film Studios Ltd, spoke about the legacy of Bray Studios in British filmmaking, highlighting its pivotal role over the past 70 years. He expressed pride in Bray Studios' resurgence under his ownership and his family's stewardship, noting Amazon's alignment with their values of quality and excellence.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy welcomed Amazon's investment, emphasizing the economic growth potential for the UK's creative industries. She underscored the importance of creating career opportunities across diverse backgrounds in the sector, reinforcing Bray Studios' continued significance in British filmmaking.

The acquisition sets the stage for the production of the second season of Citadel, a spy series by the Russo Brothers starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, scheduled to commence filming in September 2024 at Bray Film Studios.

This acquisition expands Amazon's footprint in the UK, complementing its existing operations at Shepperton Studios. It reflects Amazon's strategy of investing in state-of-the-art production facilities globally, echoing its presence at Culver Studios in California, known for its storied cinematic history.

Amazon Prime Video's acquisition of Bray Film Studios not only enhances its production capabilities but also underscores its commitment to preserving and revitalizing iconic filmmaking locations for future generations of filmmakers.
