Director Mike Flanagan and author Stephen King are teaming up again, following their recent success at the Toronto Film Festival with "The Life of Chuck". Their next project is an eight-episode series adaptation of King's classic 1974 novel "Carrie", which will stream on Amazon.

Flanagan, known for his expertise in horror storytelling, will be the showrunner for the series. This marks the latest in a series of collaborations between the two, following Flanagan's work on Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game.

"Carrie", one of King's earliest novels, launched his career and has seen multiple adaptations since Brian De Palma's iconic 1976 film. The story revolves around a young girl with telekinetic powers who faces extreme bullying, leading to devastating consequences. The original film starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie, alongside notable actors like John Travolta and Piper Laurie. The novel has since been revisited through sequels and remakes, most recently in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore in leading roles.

This adaptation of Carrie is part of a broader trend in Hollywood of expanding Stephen King's works into longer formats. King's "Fairy Tale" is being adapted into a series by A24, and other projects like "The Institute" and "The Running Man" are also in the works. Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy will serve as executive producers for the new Carrie series, with King involved as usual, granting his adaptation rights for $1, a common practice for the legendary author.
